Here on the farm we have greenhouses where we start bedding plants for our farm and other local farms. The greenhouse starts filling with plants for the season at the beginning of April. On the May long weekend we open up the greenhouse to the public to sell some potted vegetable plants for people to put in their personal gardens. Not only do we sell those from the greenhouse but we also take them to both Kingston Public Market and Wellington Market to sell. Farmers start picking up their plants to put in their field at that time and the greenhouse is empty by mid June as we finish putting our plants into the ground.
Not all vegetables need to be started in a greenhouse, we also sell:
Peas, Beans and Beetsthat we seed right into the ground!
The Pepper King
We love to grow unique varieties of vegetables and Matt has the nickname in the local area as “The Pepper King”. We grow approximately 60 varieties of peppers form the sweetest to the hottest. We also grow around 70 varieties of heirloom tomatoes along with a other vegetables that are uniquely coloured, shaped and heirloom varieties where available.
Cut Flowers
We also start cut flowers in our greenhouse that will be planted outside and later made into bouquets that we will sell at our market stalls. We grow a wide arrange of cut flowers but we really like to focus on our dahlias! We are always growing and expanding our dahlia varieties from small compact pompom dahlias to dinner plate size with ruffled petals and everything in between.
